Environment Agency - Clean Air Fund Explores Cooperation to Improve Air Quality

The Jakarta Environment Agency, received a visit from Strategic Partnerships Clean Air Fund Executive Director, Sean Maguire, to explore cooperation in improving air quality.

The meeting focused on the Breathe Jakarta Program funded by the Clean Air Fund and exploring synergies with policymakers to improve air quality in Jakarta.

Also present were representatives from C40 Cities and Vital Strategies who have contributed to implementing the Breathe Jakarta program.

Jakarta DLH Provide Sinergy to Handle Air Pollution

Jakarta Environment Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto said his party was enthusiastic about collaborating with the Clean Air Fund.

"With this support, we hope to increase the effectiveness of the emission monitoring program and public awareness campaign. This is an important step towards achieving cleaner and healthier air in Jakarta," he expressed, Thursday (8/1).

He explained that the meeting resulted in a synergy program to help the government monitor emissions and increase public awareness about the importance of air quality.

With the right technology and information support, the community could be more involved in maintaining air quality. With this collaboration, both parties hope to create Jakarta as a healthy and sustainable city.

"We're committed to continuing to innovate and collaborate with international partners to achieve cleaner air in Jakarta," he explained.

Strategic Partnerships Clean Air Fund Executive Director, Sean Maguire was confident in the potential of this collaboration. He also featured experiences with local government in London that brought about significant change.

"We successfully pushed the government to convert the iconic yellow taxis to be environmentally friendly. We believe that a similar approach can be applied in Jakarta to improve air quality," he explained.

Besides discussing the Breathe Jakarta Program, the meeting also explored other initiatives including community-based approaches to air quality monitoring. The Clean Air Fund offers support through funding, technical expertise and global networks to support program implementation in Jakarta.

Clean Air Fund, headquartered in London, England, planned to open a representative office in Indonesia to strengthen this collaboration.

"In addition to technical programs, educational initiatives are also a focus of this collaboration. The goal is to provide the public with a better understanding of the impacts of air pollution on health and the environment," he said.
